John Kelly firmly believes that we need commit as a society to ending all forms of gender discrimination within our culture and within our laws to ensure that that all women deserve equal access to workplace safety, equal pay, paid parental leave, full access to healthcare, community resources, education, and more . John wants to create a society in which all women – which includes women of color, undocumented women, poor women, disabled women, lesbian, queer, and trans women are able to lead their lives without the threat of violence, of financial instability, and patriarchal forms of oppression.
Advocating for reproductive freedom is especially essential for all individuals of marginalized genders, including cisgender women and trans people. Our campaign does not accept any federal, state or local rollbacks, cuts or restrictions on the ability of individuals to access quality reproductive healthcare services, birth control, HIV/AIDS care and prevention, or medically accurate sexuality education. This means open access to safe, legal, affordable abortion, birth control, and covering the cost for all contraceptives, including making Colorado the first state in the nation to provide equity in contraception access for men by broadening coverage of vasectomies for cisgender men and trans people.
John Kelly is a firm believer in equal pay for all genders and doing the difficult work to ensure that not only is their equal pay among those in the same job roles, but that women and all individuals of marginalized genders are considered for leadership roles and that their work is valued. This requires all of us taking on the status quo and confronting all forms of bigotry. The pay and hiring discrimination that women, particularly mothers, women of color, Indigenous women, lesbian, queer and trans women still face each day in Colorado, is atrocious and must end.
John Kelly is a proponent of labor legislation that reduces the discrimination and exploitation of working women. In the State Senate, John will support legislation that promotes basic workplace protections—including benefits like paid family leave, access to affordable childcare, sick days, healthcare, fair pay, vacation time, and healthy work environments—that benefit society as a whole.
